Hidden extras

One annoyance with spending in Brazil is how some extra costs are not initially apparent. For example if you eat at a restaurant there will be a 10% tax, so factor that above the prices you see on the menu. At the rodoviaria (bus station) in Fortaleza there was a R$2 charge levied by the bus station for the facilities.

Tthe locals are used to these arrangements and there is no attempt to make things friendly for visitors by quoting all-inclusive prices. We should be glad that the Australian government mandated that the tag price should be GST inclusive. Now if only they could get the cheap airlines to include all extra costs in their ads.
